Terms of Service
The rules for using LifeLately, in plain words.
Effective October 27, 2026
The short version
LifeLately is a personal journal. What you write and upload is yours. We keep it safe, show it only to the people you choose, and never sell it. Be kind, don’t break the law with it, and you can leave and take your account with you whenever you like.
By creating an account or using LifeLately (the iPhone app, this website, our texts and emails), you agree to these terms and to our privacy policy. If you don’t agree, please don’t use LifeLately.
LifeLately is an independent project and is not yet an incorporated company. In these terms, “LifeLately”, “we” and “us” mean the people who run it. If LifeLately becomes a company, these terms move to that company and we’ll update this page.
Your account
- You need to be at least 13 to have your own account. If you’re under 18, a parent or guardian should agree to these terms with you.
- Give us accurate details, and keep your sign-in to yourself. You’re responsible for what happens in your account.
- A parent can set up and manage an account for their child. The parent is responsible for that account until it’s handed over.
- Tell us at support@lifelately.app if you think someone else got into your account.
Your content stays yours
Your moments, words, photos, videos and recordings belong to you. We don’t claim ownership of any of it.
To run LifeLately, you give us permission to store, copy, process and display your content, only as needed to provide the service to you and to the people you choose to share with. For example: saving your photos, making smaller copies so they load fast, building the keepsakes you ask for, and showing a moment to someone you shared it with. This permission ends when you delete the content or your account, except for copies that others already received from you, and backups that we clear out on a regular schedule.
Only share content you have the right to share. If you add other people to a moment, please be thoughtful about what you post about them.
Acceptable use
Please don’t use LifeLately to:
- Break the law or help anyone else break it.
- Harass, threaten, or harm anyone, or share someone’s private information without their permission.
- Post content that sexually exploits children, or sexual content involving anyone without their consent.
- Share content you don’t have the rights to.
- Send spam, or sign up other people for messages they didn’t ask for.
- Try to break, overload, or get around the security of LifeLately, or access accounts or data that aren’t yours.
If we find content or behavior like this, we may remove it or suspend the account, and where the law requires it, report it.
AI features
Some features use AI to help you: drafting a keepsake, suggesting which experience a moment belongs in, asking a follow-up question, or answering a question about your own moments. To do that, the relevant content is sent to our AI service provider only to produce that result. It isn’t used to train their models.
AI can get things wrong. Suggestions and drafts are a starting point for you to review, and nothing is shared with anyone just because the AI suggested it.
Text messages (SMS)
Texts are optional. You can only opt in yourself, in the LifeLately iPhone app: on the “What’s your number?” step, the Text option on the “How should LifeLately reach you?” step, or the Texts from LifeLately switch in Settings › Account. You tick “I agree to get texts from LifeLately.” and confirm your number with a 6-digit code we text you. Only the account holder can add a number, and only their own. We never collect consent on someone else’s behalf, and invites to people who don’t use LifeLately go by email, never by text.
Once you opt in, we text you from +1 (478) 330-3122: confirmation codes, confirmations when a moment you texted is saved, reminders and notifications you chose to get by text, and replies to texts you send us. Message frequency varies. Most people get a few texts a week, and we send at most one scheduled notification a day, plus codes and replies. Msg & data rates may apply.
Reply STOP to opt out at any time, or HELP for help. If you text our number without opting in, we send one reply pointing you to the app, and nothing more. Carriers are not liable for delayed or undelivered messages. Full details are on our SMS messaging terms page.
Leaving LifeLately
You can delete your account any time in the app, in Settings › Account › Delete account. That deletes your moments, photos, keepsakes and other content from LifeLately. Things you already shared with others (for example, a keepsake someone saved) may stay with them. If you want a copy of your data first, email support@lifelately.app.
We may suspend or close an account that breaks these terms or puts other people or LifeLately at risk. When we can, we’ll tell you first and give you a chance to get your content.
Disclaimers
We work hard to keep LifeLately running and your content safe, but we provide the service “as is” and “as available”. To the extent the law allows, we don’t promise it will always be available, free of errors, or that nothing will ever be lost. Please keep your own copies of anything you can’t bear to lose. Features may change or go away over time.
Limitation of liability
To the extent the law allows, LifeLately won’t be liable for indirect, incidental, special, or consequential damages, or for lost data, profits, or goodwill, arising from your use of the service. Our total liability for any claim about LifeLately is limited to the greater of what you paid us in the 12 months before the claim, or $50. Some places don’t allow these limits, so they may not all apply to you.
Changes to these terms
We may update these terms as LifeLately changes. If a change is significant, we’ll tell you in the app or by email before it takes effect. If you keep using LifeLately after that, the new terms apply. If you don’t agree, you can delete your account.
